The 2026 Pokémon market is not one market — it is several moving in different directions at once. The froth of 2021 is gone, replaced by a steadier, collector-driven market, and that means the winners and losers are easier to read. Here is a no-hype snapshot of what is rising and what is cooling this year.
Rising

Mid-era (EX era, Gold Stars, Delta Species). The 2003–2011 window is the fastest-emerging category of the year as its nostalgia demographic ages into spending power. Details in our piece on why mid-era is the next vintage.
Japanese exclusive promos. Pokémon Center, event and tournament promos are among the strongest performers, with reports of 30–100%+ annual appreciation as Western collectors discover genuinely scarce Japanese-only cards. Explore Japanese cards.
Sealed vintage product. Base Set, Jungle and Fossil sealed packs and boxes keep climbing on a supply that only ever shrinks as product is opened.
Select modern chase cards. Not all modern is soft — standout Special Illustration Rares and alternate arts (think Evolving Skies Umbreon VMAX and Pokémon 151 SARs) have stabilized and begun appreciating even as the broad modern market cools.
Cooling
Overprinted modern sets and non-alt V/VMAX. As the Sword & Shield era fades and rotates out of Standard, ordinary (non-alternate-art) V and VMAX cards and heavily printed sets are softening under oversupply.
Mid-grade vintage (roughly PSA 4–6). Even in hot vintage, the middle of the condition curve is easing as buyers concentrate budgets on fewer high-grade copies. The premium for PSA 9–10 over mid-grade is widening.
The through-line: grade and scarcity win
Across every category, the same rule keeps showing up in 2026 — high grade and genuine scarcity are pulling away, while common, overprinted, and mid-grade material drifts. If you are buying to hold, that argues for fewer, better cards: high-grade vintage, emerging mid-era, and clean raw copies worth grading.
